Model Zoey Masters |
Hi, I am Zoey Masters. I am a model in South Florida. Modeling for me
started at age 9. My sister Kristin who is 27, modeled when she was a
kid encouraged me to try it for a season. She connected me with her
agency (a top agency in Miami) and I was signed exclusively. In a matter of a week's time I was working continuously. It
was such a busy season that my mom had to pull me out of school to
home-school me on the road. I loved all the excitement and adventure of
it all, but at times wished to be back in regular life at a slower pace.

At age 12, I decided to take a break from the fast pace of modeling and enrolled back in school, got involved in sports and regular life. That year for "fun" my mom and sisters (there are five of us sisters) sent in an entry for me to an Ellegirl Model Search contest without my knowing. When I won runner-up (they finally told me), and I was so surprised. I had missed the all the anxious part of a being in a contest (which I hate) and gone straight to "go" like in monopoly.

One of the prizes was an interview with a major modeling company. Since I was already a model they asked if I would consider writing a model blog. I loved that idea because I wanted to be able to remind model's to stay grounded and at the same time enjoy the business. I really see a need for this particularly with kids and teens that model. It can be all-consuming and what looks like success might not be success at all. Modeling, as in all things, has the potential to go down self-absorbed roads. Healthy, wholesome and balanced modeling is key to success: being a part of a team takes focus off of self which I believe helps to restores balance. It is my desire to write about modeling from this perspective.

Some of the Ellegirl editors will be doing a new and exciting launch soon. They have asked me to send in Model Blogs to be a part of this new launch. My mom and I have been working closely with the editor of the modeling blog department. I am excited to write about the lives of our South Florida models.

The Model-Grid (www.facebook.com/model.grid) which has been created by models for models, has been a way to bring a family feel and closeness among the models, and nurtures a sense of community. It is also cool for the family and friends to be more involved. Aspiring models and actors, as well, have joined our community. It gives modeling more of a small-town vibe in the big-city business of modeling. Model-Grid offer insights into the world of modeling from real models which is fascinating and at the same time gives viewers the opportunity see models as real people. As one of the model's moms (Hilary Fairburn Sullivan) put so well: It humanizes the industry.
